Né en 1966 à São Domingos, dans le nord de la Guinée Bissau, Nú Barreto s‘installe à Paris en 1989 et s’intéresse d’abord à la photographie.
Il fait une brève formation à l’École de Photographie AEP à Paris en 1993, puis poursuit et conclut ses études photographiques à l’École Nationale des Métiers de
l’Image des Gobelins, à Paris, de 1994 à 1996.
Internationalement connu et reconnu pour son talent et son travail depuis ses premières expositions en 1997, ses oeuvres ont fait le tour du monde (Allemagne,
Brésil, Chine, Espagne, États-Unis, France, Macao, Portugal, Sénégal...). Il a récemment participé à la 1:54 de New-York et de Marrakech.
Artiste pluridisciplinaire, son travail mixte, dessin, collage et récupération. Sa démarche artistique cherche à interpeller le spectateur à travers l’usage de la
peinture, de la photographie, du dessin et de la vidéo.
Nú Barreto attire le regard sur les nombreux fléaux (misère, souffrance, discriminations,…) qui sévissent sur le continent africain à travers l’utilisation d’une
forte symbolique exprimées dans les formes, les couleurs et les motifs.
Born in 1966 in São Domingos, in the north of Guinea Bissau, Nú Barreto settles in Paris in 1989 and is interested in photography.
He did a brief training at the AEP Photography School in Paris in 1993, then continued and concluded his photographic studies at the National School of Crafts
Image Gobelins, in Paris, from 1994 to 1996.
Internationally known and recognized for his talent and his work since his first exhibitions in 1997, his works have toured the world (Germany, Brazil, China,
Spain, United States, France, Macao, Portugal, Senegal ...). He recently participated in the 1:54 of New York and Marrakech.
Multidisciplinary artist, his mixed work, drawing, collage and recovery. His artistic approach seeks to challenge the viewer through the use of painting,
photography, drawing and video.
Nú Barreto draws attention to the many plagues (misery, suffering, discrimination, ...) that plague the African continent through the use of a strong symbolic
expressed in shapes, colors and patterns.
