MARC PADEU
Diplômé de l’institut des beaux arts (IBA) de l’université de Douala à Nkongsamba, Marc Noubissie Padeu vit et travaille entre Douala et Nkongsamba au
Cameroun. Son travail est un savant mélange du conceptuel « On kawara » (Japon) et du portraitiste réaliste et post-moderne Barkley L. Hendricks (USA), deux grandes figures de la peinture
contemporaine.
Marc Padeu est un artiste engagé. Il avoue être interpellé par l’impact de la violence du terrorisme sur la société actuelle ainsi que par la
représentation contemporaine de l’héritage du commerce triangulaire.
Marc Padeu est lauréat du 1er prix d’art 2016 : « Bimbia : mémoire de l’esclavage et de la traite négrière au Cameroun » organisé conjointement par
l’ambassade des États-Unis d’Amérique à Yaoundé et le programme Route des chefferies.
Ses travaux figurent dans la collection permanente de la banque mondiale Washington, mais également dans d’importantes collections privées
occidentales (collection Francks Suss) à la faveur d’une exposition collective initiée par la Jack bell gallery à Londres en 2014.
En novembre 2017, la galerie Carole Kvasnevski présente un solo show à la ST.ART, Foire Européenne d’Art contemporain de Strasbourg, intitulé « Corps
& âmes ».
Le travail de Marc Padeu questionne la mémoire du passé et le rapport au spirituel dans les sociétés africaines actuelles.
L’Afrique porte encore sur elle le poids du christianisme, un héritage de la colonisation ? Le Christianisme et le traditionnel partageraient-ils le
même repas dans ce vase énigmatique symbole de perfection, d’amour et de connaissance, le Saint Graal ?
L’histoire du christianisme serait-elle une pâle copie des cosmogonies africaines ?
Graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts (IBA) at Douala University in Nkongsamba, Marc Noubissie Padeu lives and works between Douala and Nkongsamba in
Cameroon. His work is a clever blend of the conceptual "On kawara" (Japan) and the realistic and post-modern portraitist Barkley L. Hendricks (USA), two great figures of contemporary
painting.
Marc Padeu is a committed artist. He admits to being challenged by the impact of the violence of terrorism on the current society as well as by the contemporary
representation of the legacy of the triangular trade.
Marc Padeu is laureate of the first art prize 2016: "Bimbia: memory of slavery and the slave trade in Cameroon" organized jointly by the Embassy of the United
States of America in Yaounde and the program Road chieftaincy.
His works appear in the permanent collection of the World Bank Washington, but also in important private collections in the West (Francks Suss collection) in a
collective exhibition initiated by the Jack bell gallery in London in 2014.
In November 2017, the Carole Kvasnevski gallery presents a solo show at ST.ART, the European Contemporary Art Fair in Strasbourg, entitled "Corps &
âmes".
Marc Padeu's work questions the memory of the past and the relation to the spiritual in current African societies.
Does Africa still bear on it the weight of Christianity, a legacy of colonization? Would Christianity and the traditional share the same meal in this enigmatic
